Savills and POD Point to work together to roll out Electric Vehicle charging across UK Retail Parks and Shopping Centres

27 April 2017

POD Point, the UK’s leading provider of charge points for electric and hybrid cars has announced it will be working with the real estate advisor Savills to promote electric vehicle (EV) charging across its managed retail parks and shopping centres across the country.

According to The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, UK sales of electric plug-in and electric-hybrid vehicles in 2017 were up 27.5% compared to the previous year (year-to-date). With ever more electric and plug-in hybrid cars on the road, EV charging stations represent a new way for retail park and shopping centre landlords to attract and retain new customers while creating extra value for shoppers.

Nick Herward, head of property management at Savills, said: “We are always looking to improve the offer of the out of town shopping centres and retail parks we manage on behalf of our clients to improve the overall experience for customers. Encouraging sustainable practices is part of this. As we adapt to new technologies, it’s important we cater for the emerging EV driver market and working with POD Point will allow us to do this.”

Erik Fairbairn, Founder and CEO of POD Point said: “We are very excited to work with Savills to further grow and improve charging infrastructure in public places. In doing so, and as infrastructure continues to grow, we believe this will encourage ever more people to purchase electric vehicles.”

Open Charge is POD Point’s next generation public charging network. It offers reliable charging points that can be accessed via an intuitive mobile app without the need for membership. To start charging, all a driver needs to do is plug in the electric car cable and select the Open Charge point in the mobile app. The system also allows 15 minutes of emergency charging in case drivers don’t have their mobile phones on them.
